E' questa la posizione di Sinistra Democratica che è emersa al termine del colloquio di Fabio Mussi con il Capo dello Stato, Giorgio Napolitano, nell'ambito delle consultazioni avviate a seguito della crisi di governo. Il leader di SD spiega poi quali debbano essere i punti programmatici di un 'eventuale governo a termine. In materia di legge elettorale, Mussi sottolinea che "non può avere un mandato di sostenere o favorire qualunque nuova legge elettorale, ma bisogna ripartire dalla bozza Bianco, dal testo al quale la Commissione Affari costituzionali del Senato stava per dare il suo voto". Il leader SD non crede alla possibilità che possa, tra le ipotesi in campo, nascere un esecutivo di tipo tecnico, sulla scia anche dell'esempio del governo Ciampi del '93 e infine, a chi insiste sulla possibilità che i 'trasformisti' possano, condividendo i punti programmatici entrare a far parte del governo a termine, ribadisce il suo no puntualizzando: "Uno dei punti programmatici e' la decenza".
